Founder Friday Austin Launch and official “Women in Tech” Meet Up hosted at SXSW.
By Angie Chang (Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Women 2.0)

We hosted a sold-out Founder Friday Austin Launch at SXSW. Over 150 people visited the Alcatel-Lucent Trend Lounge at SXSW to find out about Women 2.0, meet our community of entrepreneurs, and discussed resources for starting startups.

We met women from the east coast (New York, Chicago, Boston) as well as the west coast (San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles). Women came from all corners of the state of Texas in hopes of meeting more like-minded women. Even Colorado and Mexico had women represent!

Women engineers discussed commercialization of technology and pitched launching new verticals on proven business models. The Founder Friday attendees were excited to meet other women interested in technology, entrepreneurship and business.

The Women 2.0 website serves as a veritable firehose of information for entrepreneurs. This stream of knowledge, resources and startup lessons learned from women is complemented by networking events like Founder Friday, aiming to build the next New Girl’s Club of women. The goal is to build businesses, generate revenues and go big.

Female startup founders served as hosts for the Austin launch of Founder Friday. Priya Sheth (Founder & CEO, Be Scrappy) who talked about transitioning from working as an aerospace engineer to becoming a designer and entrepreneur in San Francisco. Jen Grogono (Founder & CEO, UStudio) shared her story as a serial entrepreneur, and talked candidly about pitching for investment from awkward moment to triumph in venture capital offices. Nili Goldberg (Founder & CEO, Brandsforce) from Israel talked about meeting investors and shared her excitement in being a woman entrepreneur today. You can watch Nili’s Founder Friday talk on YouTube here.

Thanks to our sponsor Alcatel-Lucent who did a great job with the venue and for supporting us throughout SXSW – special thanks to Redgie, Lenna and team!

On Sunday morning, Women 2.0 hosted the “Women in Tech” meet up where we met another set of women entrepreneurs, most of whom had just arrived and missed the Friday event. This group featured women from Los Angeles to Washington D.C., representing startups from POPVOX to Intern Sushi.

Thanks everyone for coming out to meet Women 2.0 at SXSW! We had a great time – hope you did too.
