Women Entrepreneurs At Fashion's Night Out In New York City

Meet enterprising female founders at the Plum Alley event.

By Leena Sukumar (Vice President, mySkin)

I attended a Fashion’s Night Out event in New York co-hosted by Plum Alley, a new venture by Deborah Jackson. Deborah, a champion of women-owned companies, seeks to provide exposure to curated emerging brands founded by women, via limited sales.

The event was packed with high-energy women dressed fashionably in true New York City style.

I ran into enterprising women founders while browsing the various products on display, observing makeovers, manicures and hair styling, all the time, sipping a delicious a cocktail libation whipped up by the bar staff.

Sonia Sahney Nagar (CEO, Pickie) is rushing full steam ahead with her venture backed startup Pickie, a dynamic and personalized shopping magazine for the iPad that gets updated daily.

Hillary Hutcheson and Ritika Gill (Co-Founders, Beauty Booked) utilized their deep experience in the beauty space and started Beauty Booked, a new and unique spa booking site which selects featured spas with reviews on their site, from where customers can make and manage spa and salon bookings.

Benita Singh (Co-Founder & CEO, Source4Style) leveraged her fashion background to start what she calls the premier destination to discover and source the latest materials from across the globe – Source4style. Benita has been an entrepreneur since her college days.

Monika Kochhar Strenitz (CEO, Truffledig) is currently on her second tech startup. She is the CEO of a gift-by-phone platform that helps local businesses win new customers. Using under-utilized QR codes in an innovative way, Truffledig lets store visitors know your top picks and instantly gift them to others via Facebook or email on their smartphones.
