Our newest fashion show addition is pushing the boundaries of wearable tech. Learn what she will be showcasing at our conference.

Katia Vega, who is currently a PhD candidate in Computer Science in Brazil, is pushing the boundaries of the definition of wearable tech through her work at Beauty Technology. Her projects go beyond revolutionizing makeup and appear to be as outlandish and incredible as some of the adornments you’d see in the Capitol of the Hunger Games. From chemical eyelashes to beauty tech nails that include embedded RFID tags, to conductive makeup to make nails twinkle, Vega is changing the way we think about appearance, art and our bodies.
Beauty Technology describes its products as “wearable devices that act as removeable and hidden electronics attached to body surfaces enabling wearers to interact with the digital world without inferring in everyday activities.” The goal of the work is to enhance physical appearance and her pieces have won top awards in just the last year.
The pieces she will be showcasing at our conference include a DJ set where music is signaled by hand and finger motions underwater and a ‘drone’ that flies after you charge it through blinking. She will be doing a collaboration with our special guest performer Congo Sanchez using her aqua DJ set to end the conference!
Vega has a background in computer science and is a system and informatics engineer. She is a specialist on IBM Rational Tools and is currently researching beauty technology, wearable computers, virtual worlds and groupware. You can follow her on Twitter at @kfcito.
