If you’ve spent just five minutes working in tech, you’re already sick of hearing about big data. Get used to it. Big data isn’t going anywhere.

For some, big data continues to be a buzzword to toss around at networking events. But those who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and make sense of the big data mess are worth keeping their eye on.

The biggest problem with big data is that this simple concept — using learnings from past customer behavior to effectively predict what they’ll do or want next — is not at all simple in practice. While most companies have more data than they know what to do with, gaining real insights from that data is tricky.

Enter 6sense.

CEO and founder Amanda Kahlow just launched her B2B predictive intelligence engine for sales and marketing to the world. 6sense already has a roster of clients that include Cisco, NetApp, Xactly, Pure Storage, Blue Jeans and CBS Interactive. Oh, and 6sense launched with $12 million in Series A backing.

After a year in stealth mode (meaning working under wraps to fully fine-tune the product) Kahlow and her team have built a tool that can predict who customers will be at every stage of the sales cycle, then tells their clients how to reach them. Cisco claimed the 6sense platform helped identify potential business customers with 80 percent accuracy.

“I am the kind of person that doesn’t like to talk about success before we have proven results,” Kahlow said. “Now that our customers have reported their game-changing results achieved through working with 6sense, we’re ready to tell everyone about it.”

Kahlow was inspired to pursue building out 6sense while working with Cisco to help build out their customer sales process.

“Since then, our vision has been incredibly laser focused,” Kahlow said. “Leverage 6sense’s deep expertise in big data and predictive modeling to fundamentally refine the B2B marketing and sales processes and, ultimately, grow businesses.

With the $12 million in funding, 6sense plans to build out additional product features and grow their sales and marketing teams.

In addition to leading what could become one of the biggest players in the B2B big data game, Kahlow is also an advisor Girl Rising, the campaign and documentary that supports education for girls in developing countries. While she’s just 1.3 percent of female-founded venture-backed startups, Kahlow hopes to help make a difference in moving the needle so more women become leaders.
