Pickie, a personalized shopping magazine available on the iPad app store starting today, raised a million dollars from DFJ Gotham, Betaworks, Liberty City Ventures, Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments, MESA+ and several angel investors including Jon Steinberg, David Tisch, Lars Albright, Andy Miller and Eric Stein.

Pickie is co-founded by CEO Sonia Sahney Nagar, a former product manager at Amazon. She shares some good advice for entrepreneurs – “During TechStars, David Tisch gave me the advice that for early-stage companies, the biggest factor in getting a deal done, and getting the terms you want, is confidence. It’s true. Be consistently, unapologetically confident,” said CEO Sonia Sahney Nagar of Pickie.

“The tech ecosystem in NYC is now creating and nourishing world class female entrepreneurs in increasing numbers. Sonia is a great example and we look forward to working with her and the rest of the Pickie team,” said Joy Marcus, a partner at DFJ Gotham which invested in Pickie.

“Social commerce is a big opportunity and there are a lot of smart folks working on figuring out how we will shop,” explained Danny Schultz, a founding partner and Managing Director of DFJ Gotham. “Sonia and her team are an exceptional group of people – the right mix of experience, skills and deep consumer insight to crack the code.”

“I think one of the keys to closing our funding was the strength of our team. There are a lot of people that are trying to build startups in eCommerce, but we’ve built a team that has a ton of relevant technical and topical expertise. We plan to use the funding to expand our team (we’re hiring engineers) which will help us grow more rapidly,” said Pickie’s Sonia Sahney Nagar.

Starting today, Pickie is available in the iPad app store. A shopping app that is part magazine, part catalog. Here’s the brilliant part – all the products featured in Pickie available for purchase. In fact, all products in the app are tailored to your interests and tastes, taking into account your personal style, favorite brands and the latest trending products from across their your retailers and social feeds.
