Nora Abousteit, Founder Of Kollabora, Raises $2.3M For "Community Of Makers"

From a PITCH NYC panel of hardware hackers and makers who ran very successful Kickstarter campaigns, to modern-day Martha Stewart Brit Morin‘s launch of the Brit Kit of regular DIY kit delivery, the maker/DIY trend is rising and Nora is rising with it.

Last week, DIY projects/supplies website Kollabora raised $2.3 million in funding according to a SEC filing. Kollabora is founded by Nora Abousteit, who is also a co-founder of the DLD conference, a global conference network on innovation, digital media, science and culture

From jewelry to knitting and sewing, Kollabora offers inspiration and supplies for DIY crafts. Prior to Kollabora, Nora founded BurdaStyle, a DIY fashion and sewing site offering downloadable sewing patterns, tutorials, community and more.

Fundraising advice she had for entrepreneurs include: “In general I recommend to start getting acquainted with the VC world as early as possible. Talk to people that raised money and ask for advice. Get to know VCs as early as possible so they can get to know you and see that you’re making progress. Also, make sure your industry is relevant to the VC’s portfolio, many say clearly on their website what they’re looking for and what they’re not interested in. Make sure to understand term sheets, have someone sit down with you and talk you through it.”

Congrats to Nora Abousteit on the round – we look forward to hearing more about Kollabora and watching the company grow!
