A Quick Summary of Women's Entrepreneurship Day

A day to celebrate, support and empower women entrepreneurs worldwide.

women2-sponsored-blog-postThe first ever Women’s Entrepreneurship Day was celebrated yesterday at the UN. The event was headed by entrepreneur and humanitarian Wendy Diamond and is the brainchild of Kunal Sood, Chair of the WED Fellows Accelerator.

This global program serves to promote pioneering women who are game changers in their fields of excellence.  The defining goal is to empower women and their businesses, in addition to gathering a think tank of women leaders.

The Accelerator

The Distinguished WED Fellows Accelerator is a selective group of women which follows the idea that a small group of committed fellows can change the world.

“Empowering women worldwide and investing in their futures helps to drive and promote economic vitality and security locally and globally,” said Diamond.  “We want to celebrate the unwavering positives that women entrepreneurs bring to the global economy as well as inspire and support future generations of women entrepreneurs.”

Who are the Distinguished WED Fellows?

The Distinguished WED Fellows embody entrepreneurship in Poland, India, Japan, and Venezuela, among many other nations.

Cosima Gretton and Julielynn Wong who are currently working at NASA Research Park as part of Singularity University to help empower communities all over the world.

Laura Muranaka a patent attorney who works at insidr, a Lexis Nexis company, and has served as treasurer and on general counsel for TEDx UNPlaza.

Shaherose Charania, the co-founder & CEO of Women 2.0, who on a daily basis, plays a balancing act between supporting the entrepreneurial environment and participating in it.

“I want technology to serve the underserved, connect the unconnected and impact people in positive ways,” said Charania.

With the growth of Women 2.0, she is building an important media platform, providing a voice to female innovators in technology who are creative leaders.

Kamila Staryga works at Google. She is most proud of her Polish heritage and her story to over come adversity against the odds.

Carolina Piña, a special advisor at the Kellogg School of management one of the world’s top business schools, is also passionate about empowering women with the skills and education needed to create sustainable change.

Taira Soo is the Founder and Creative Director of Soopergirl. After a career as a professional dancer, she took a leap of faith and embarked on her own business venture, founding Soopergirl.

Diamond rallied an impressive and powerful list of worldwide influential organizations, leaders and entrepreneurs supporting women to gather and join at the UN on this day of WED. Find out more information on the WED wesbite.
