Female Founders to Watch Who Launched in 2013

Meet the women who were busy launching their companies and/or products this year.

When you search startups/tech products that launched in 2013, no surprise, the majority of founders are men. We’re all for supporting our men, but here’s a list just dedicated to the startups, apps and products that female founders launched (or helped launch) in 2013.

 

amandaAmanda Peyton (Founder, Grand St.)

Grand St., is a marketplace that features hand-picked, tested tech products from indpendent producers. Peyton is a graduate of MIT and was a member of the the 2010 Y-Combinator class.

 

annAnn Chao (Founder, Sonation)

This app allows classical musicians to practice amongst an “orchestra” by listening to the musician and responding to their music in real time. Chao has a media and music background.

 

kayLauren Kay (Founder, The Dating Ring)

An online dating service, based only in New York now, but with plans to expand to the Bay Area in early 2014. Kay, a graduate from Brown, previously started Smartsitting.

 

soraya_newSoraya Darabi (Founder, Zady)

The NY based ecommerce company that is focused on the conscious consumer, launched this July. They most recently opened their first retail store in the LGA airport this holiday season.

 

kimKim Taylor (Founder, Ranku)

Founded in June 2013, the company “aims to be the Kayak of online degrees by helping students find and compare reputable colleges.” Follow her @kimmytaylor

 

Women 2.0 PITCH LV Competition Finalists who also launched this year:

 

cynthiaCynthia Schames (Founder, AbbeyPost)

AbbeyPost, launched in 2013 was winner of Women 2.0’s signature PITCH LV 2013 competition! Previously, Schames was the founder and CEO of La Boite Orange.

 

travelingspoonSteph Lawrence and Aashi Vel (Co-founders, Traveling Spoon)

Both Lawrence and Vel are passionate about food and their app is a reflection of that -authentically connecting people with cultures through food. Both are avid travelers, Vel has a design background and Lawrence is a marketing business background. Congrats again ladies for being the People’s Choice Award winner at our PITCH LV 2013 competition!

 

emily jessJess Brondo, Emily Cole (Co-Founders, Admitted.ly)

Both founders have backgrounds in education and launched the online college advisory platform this year. Follow them on Twitter at @JessBrondo and @emilycole13.

 

jenna 2Jenna Dreher Fernandes (CEO & Co-Founder, Carebooker)

Carebooker is an OpenTable for family care services. Previously, Dreher Fernandes worked as a consultant at Deloitte and a marketing associate at Greenwich Associates. She is a graduate of Tufts University.

 

jenEvgeniya (Jen) Usmanova (Co-founder & CMO, Carelulu)

Carelulu is an “online marketplace to help provide parents with an easy way to find a daycare or preschool that fits their family’s needs.” The  website launched this past summer, she has worked on fostering entrepreneurship across US and Russian universities.

 

MeiSiauwMei Siauw (Co-founder, Totspot)

This finalist’s mobile app is designed for moms to buy and sell children’s items, including toys, clothes, baby gear and books. The app just launched in limited beta in the Bay Area this November on iPhone.

 

allymelissaAlly Downey + Melissa Post (Co-founders, weeSpring)

Launched in Jan. 2013, weeSpring let’s parents review children’s products. The co-founders both have children under age three. Follow Ally on Twitter at @AllysonDowney.

 

kately (Co-founder & CEO, Infinite PDF)

Infinite PDF, a tool that imports PDFs from Dropbox, the web, email or from another app, creates a core spine for presentations and allows you to build upon any topic to give it more depth. It’s mobile app was just released.
