What Was It Like to Be an Early Google Employee?

Heather Cairns, Google employee number four, and the former COO of Google Europe talk about the search giant’s humble beginnings.

By Jessica Stillman (Editor, Women 2.0)

These days Google is a verb and a world-spanning institution, so it’s hard to remember that the search behemoth is still only a gangly teenager. That’s right, Google turned 15 on Friday.

What better way to celebrate a decade and half of Google, then to look back at the tech company equivalent of adorable baby pictures by checking out this video of early employees telling Bloomberg news what it was like in the first years of the company. Heather Cairns, who met Larry and Sergey while serving as the graduate administrator at Stanford (where, no joke, she apparently administered exams while carrying a bull whip!) and became Google’s fourth employee, shares her memories, as does Ben Legg, the former COO of Google Europe. Check it out below and a big happy birthday and thanks for being a sponsor and partner to Google from Women 2.0!
