Entrepreneurship Meets Motherhood

The founder of two tech startups in Chile and Argentina talks about the growth of her businesses alongside the growth of her two-month-old daughter.

By Susana Cipriota (Co-Founder, LeanBirds & Soukboard)

LeanBirds is founded by four startup evangelists; two women business developers (Lucila Campos and I) and two “ninja” coder men (Gabriel Maffia and Juan Pablo Mansor). At Leanbirds we work with entrepreneurs around the world to help them transform their ideas into successful products. We bring business and technological insight to the process of developing a Minimum Viable Product that will help our customers achieve product/market validation and be ready to scale their business.

Some months ago we decided to capitalize all the experience obtained in our clients’ project and conceived SoukboardSoukboard is the online store’s smart assistant for small businesses. Sales performance is our goal. Small business owners can create online stores, optimize marketing campaigns and pay only per conversion – everything is in a single platform.

Our team has been selected by Start-up Chile to accelerate Soukboard business in Santiago for seven months. Start-Up Chile is a program created by the Chilean Government that seeks to attract early stage, high-potential entrepreneurs to bootstrap their startups in Chile, using it as a platform to go global. After receiving more than 1400 applications, they announced, during the sixth application period, that 105 startup companies have been selected to be part of the world-recognized acceleration program’s sixth generation, Soukboard was one of them.

It’s been almost five months since part of the Leanbirds team arrived from Buenos Aires to Santiago. We (the girls of the team; Lucila, my two-year-old daughter, Simona, and I) arrived with a simple prototype in Santiago back in February, and were able to pre-launch the beta version and receive a place in the demo day.

It’s been quite curious to see how my both of my babies, Simona (my daughter) and Soukboard (one of my startups), have grown so fast in just a few months. Entrepreneurship merged with motherhood is a tough, but really exciting life! I hope my experience inspires you to start on this roller coaster lifestyle.

What are the pros you’ve noticed about being a mother and entrepreneur simultaneously?
