Marissa Mayer Leans In: “We Are All Capable of So Much More Than We Think”

“New beginnings – professional, personal, or come what may – are always uncomfortable, but being open to them is the only way to grow. In the end, we are all capable of so much more than we think.”

By Angie Chang (Co-Founder & Editor-in-Chief, Women 2.0)

Today, Marissa Mayer shared her “Lean In” story on Sheryl Sandberg’s “Lean In” website. She shares the experience of stepping into the CEO position at Yahoo!, adding a note about her motherhood and how it makes her a better executive:

“I’ve come to realize that being a mother makes me a better executive, because motherhood forces prioritization. Being a mom gives you so much more clarity on what is important.”

But her best quote, of course, is about daring to risk, to know when to quit, and owning your destiny:

“New beginnings – professional, personal, or come what may – are always uncomfortable, but being open to them is the only way to grow. In the end, we are all capable of so much more than we think.”
