Lean Startup Machine Returns To Los Angeles (Win A Free Ticket)

A hands-on experience where you learn Customer Development and Lean Startup principles.
By Edlin Choi (Workshop Coordinator, Lean Startup Machine)

Three months after a sold-out first Lean Startup Machine Los Angeles, the world’s leading workshop on Lean Startup methodologies returns September 21-23, 2012 to make even more LA startups, entrepreneurs, and corporate intrapreneurs leaner and meaner.

The first LSM LA wrapped up with a bang – 12 teams went through a challenging three days of lean startup learning, out of the building getting, hypothesis testing, assumption (in)validating, and lots of pivoting that culminated in a 5-minute pitch.

More of a show-us-what-you-learned story than a why-should-we-invest-in-you elevator pitch, these final presentations boiled down an entire weekend’s worth of learning for the panel of judges, which included Lane Halley of Carbon Five, Amir Banifatemi of K5launch, Sarah Fergusson of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, and Michael Harries of Citrix.

From there, the victors were announced and FashionMetric came out on top with Protein Barn earning second place. The original FashionMetric team of Kaman Cheung, James Baca, Martina Watcharawaratorn, Alline Watkins and team leader Daina Burnes won free passes to AngelHack. Daina’s fiance, Morgan Linton (who also happens to be a stellar LSM mentor), joined the team at AngelHack San Francisco where they made it to the finals and piqued investor interest.

To be clear, Lean Startup Machine is NOT a hackathon.

It’s an intense, hands-on experience that puts you through Customer Development and Lean Startup processes to learn what customers actually want. With top notch mentors, a tightly knit learning environment, and an educational experience that’s been honed over 42 workshops in 30+ cities internationally, the Lean Startup Machine journey doesn’t end after three days; it’ll change the very way you think about products and businesses forever.
