Join fellow founders, both aspiring and current, for dinner together before the health hackathon in Palo Alto. Women 2.0 Labs alumni Rebecca Woodcock (Founder, Cake Health) has made reservations for us at 6pm for Slidebar Cafe on Friday, September 10, 2010.

This Founder Friday event kicks off HealthTap’s Hacking 4 Health hackathon happening Saturday, September 11 at HealthTap’s office in Palo Alto. At the hackathon, meet fellow developers and startuppers who share your passion for creating innovative health applications and get feedback/help on your projects.
Health 2.0 + HealthTap = Hacking 4 Health (September 11 Hackathon)

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other government agencies are releasing vast amounts of health data that developers can use to create applications that will help individuals and communities. HealthTap, in collaboration with Health 2.0, combine forces to produce the Hacking 4 Health hackathon on Saturday, September 11, 2010 in Palo Alto — where developers can learn more about this initiative, gain deeper understanding of the available data sets and build innovative applications that use this data.

Java, Ruby, Python, PHP, mobile developers, coders and anyone who has a passion to code, hack and kluge applications that will free the accessibility and usefulness of government-shared data are urged to participate. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the data sets that have been released by the government and build a diverse set of applications that will show the power of open data, using several tools and resources that will be presented. Speakers include Roni Zieger (Chief Health Strategist, Google). Various prizes including iPads will be awarded at the end of the day for the best, most innovative applications created.

The Hackathon is open to all developers, UI designers and architects that are interested in exploring the treasure trove of health data and integrating it with other mashup data sources. To register, go to http://h4h.healthtap.com.

Hackers who are planning on taking part in the Health 2.0 Developer Challenge announced by the Community Health Data Initiative should seriously consider attending the hackathon as it will prepare them well for the challenge.

The Hacking 4 Health hackathon is FREE for all participants and will be held at HealthTap’s office in downtown Palo Alto (map).
