Women took the 2012 Crunchies Awards stage as presenters, winners.

Attended by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (accepting the award for “Best CEO of 2012″) and kicked off by presenter and sponsor Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer, the 2012 Crunchies Awards in San Francisco last night did not disappoint.

Women represented onstage, from Kleiner Perkins Partner Aileen Lee to TaskRabbit CEO Leah Busque. Writers from hosting tech blogs presented awards as well.

Memorable Moments From The 2012 Crunchies Awards:

  1. Marissa Mayer opening the show as Yahoo! CEO - As Yahoo! was the headline sponsor for the 2012 Crunchies Awards, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer took the stage at the beginning of the show and welcomed the crowd. She established herself as an amateur comedian, reminding the audience that Yahoo! is hiring.
  2. Biting the hand that feeds you is now established crowdpleasing shtick online and off – TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington took the stage alongside AOL CEO Tim Armstrong for scripted verbal sparring, shtick best executed by NBC’s 30 Rock (which coincidentally aired the series finale of 30 Rock during the 2012 Crunchies Awards).
  3. Accepting the award for “Best Education Startup 2012″ for Codeacademy was a student of the education platform - The New York-based education startup sent one of their students, Dilys Sun, onstage to accept their award and thank their users. She recommends learning JavaScript, Python and Ruby on Rails.

Noticeably missing was Coursera co-founder Daphne Koller, who was not onstage to receive the Crunchies Award for “Best New Startup Of 2012″ alongside her co-founder Andrew Ng.

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer, Role Model

Many of the women who attended the Crunchies commented off the record on diversity issues, while publicly celebrating the women onstage as role models.

Maris McEdward, Microsoft Accelerator Program Manager (powered by TechStars), got to meet Marissa Mayer at the afterparty.

“Meeting a tech icon like Marissa Mayer was absolutely the highlight of the night – she is an inspiring role model for founders, female and male,” said Microsoft/TechStar’s Maris McEdward.

Dilys Sun, the Codecademy student who accepted the Crunchies Award for “Best Education Startup 2012″ on behalf of Codecademy, tweeted a picture of Marissa Mayer backstage at the 2012 Crunchies noting “the presence of Marissa, a powerful one, even back stage. Enjoy her smile and friendliness.”
