Today Yahoo! acquired Alike, a mobile company founded by CEO Maria Renhui Zhang. The app focused on personalization by using the restaurants and places you like to find the ones you’ll love. In a statement, Yahoo! was “very impressed by the team and their approach to building personalized experiences.”

The entire Alike team will join Yahoo!’s mobile organization in San Francisco and Sunnyvale. Yahoo! did not issue a press release but the Alike team posted an announcement on their site:

A former software engineer, Maria has authored a guest blog post for Women 2.0 about women in engineering, specifically why a co-ed dev team is good for business.

We at Women 2.0 remember proudly when Maria Renhui Zhang pitched onstage at Women 2.0’s New York Conference as a finalist of last year’s startup competition – she even braved the live demo!

Congratulations on the Alike acquisition under Marissa Mayer’s tutelage – we look forward to seeing how the brains behind Alike will be integrated with Yahoo! technology. We’re also thrilled to have another female founder role model to add to our list of successful women entrepreneurs.

Join Women 2.0 for our 6th annual conference this Thursday in San Francisco! The finalists of the PITCH SF 2013 Startup Competition will be pitching onstage for feedback and prizes!
