Step Up Your Game: It's Time to Grow

Are you ready to grow in 2015? Here’s a few key reminders.

Today is a great time for businesses. Social progress, the economy, and most of all, the drive and passion of millions of women across the US, make for an environment of business confidence. For example, the recently released Sage Business Index found that 71 percent of women business owners expect company growth in 2015.

Theodore Roosevelt said it well, “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” That’s the first step. But what’s next? As you look for ways to grow your business next year, believe in yourself, your ideas, and your capabilities. Remember that passion that brought you where you are today (and don’t forget to share what you’ve learned with others!)

Lead Even When You’re Not the CEO

Leaders passionately promote ideas, and have the power to change peoples’ hearts and minds. True leaders not only inspire others to believe certain ideas, but they can also inspire others to lead. We all have this ability, even in small ways. You don’t need to be a CEO to be a leader. Finding ways to lead will benefit you and buoy others. Look for ways to demonstrate leadership daily.

Share Your Expertise

You may not realize it, and you may even be uncomfortable with the distinction, but you are an expert. Examine your life to find your areas of expertise. Often, your areas of leadership and expertise will overlap. Being an expert isn’t about being superior to anyone else, but about being able to confidently share ideas. Building your own expertise, as well as networking with other experts, is mutually beneficial and a way to promote growth and influence for all involved. Becoming an expert shows that you value your experience and are eager to share your knowledge with others. President John F. Kennedy said “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Your willingness to help others develop their expertise will pay huge dividends as your company grows.

Take More Risks

More women are taking risks and being heard. Now is the time to build on that momentum. Risk-taking builds confidence and inspires fellow entrepreneurs. It may be difficult, and even scary, but it is necessary to take your company to the next level.

Yes, risks open us up to failure, but it’s only when we step outside our comfort zones, do we truly give ourselves the chance to grow and ultimately contributing to the changing face of business leadership on a local, national and global level.

Ask for Help

No one really does it alone. Perhaps you’re ready to forge into new territory and conquer new opportunities, but you’re not sure where to start. All entrepreneurs and business professionals have invaluable advice to share. By networking and building stronger relationships with other executives, you can leverage broader wisdom and arm yourself with more tools to help you succeed.

Sharpen your skills, focus on capabilities, and create a culture that will propel your company toward growth in the new year.
