City Meetup is Launching in A New East Coast Tech Hub!

Crystal City, we’re comin’ for ya!

By Jessica Schimm (Digital Audience Engagement, Women 2.0)

Last month we launched City Meetup across the bridge from Women 2.0 HQ. For June, we’re launching the event across the country, near the nation’s capital. In fact, this newest City Meetup location is just a short a 12-minute metro ride from DC, so we invite everyone from the DC metro area to attend. And if you happen to be passing through the Reagan National Airport later next month, try to swing by.

On June 26th, City Meetup will launch in Crystal City, Va., the newest hub to follow the lead of Vegas and Silicon Valley. You can not only join us in our mission to create a thriving tech scene on the East Coast, but also also enjoy from the monumental views of Crystal City at the meetup location.

Never heard of Crystal City before? That’ll change — fast. Just one year ago, this was a quiet city with not much going on. But now, the city is undergoing a massive transformation and infusion of energy, thanks to a growing technology community.

One of the most recent contributions to the growing tech hub is Paul Singh’s new venture, Disruption Corporation, which among other things manages the $50 million Crystal Tech Fund. Disruption’s headquarters is now in the heart of Crystal City, and so far, most of the companies in Crystal Tech Fund’s rapidly expanding portfolio are based right alongside it. Singh — who was one of the original partners at venture firm and startup accelerator 500 Startups in Silicon Valley — and his team are investing in high-growth tech businesses, and they’re drawing attention to the energy and wealth of creative and talent in and around the nation’s capital.

“I knew I wanted a space that would be attractive for the founders. I wanted a neighborhood with great restaurants and great living environments. I knew I wanted Metro access and an airport nearby,” Singh told Washington Post when asked why he chose Crystal City. It’s also the place he wants his family to grow up in.

… Sounds good to us!

We are thrilled to be a part of this budding tech ecosystem and hope to strengthen the tech community in Arlington’s largest downtown through City Meetup. Additionally, we’d like to thank our sponsors, Disruption Corporation and Crystal City BID, for helping us launch in City Meetup Crystal City!

See you there June 26th! Register here and invite your East Coast friends to the Facebook event page.
