A million dollars isn't cool. You know what's cool? A billion dollars. By Jessica Stillman (Editor, Women 2.0)

Well OK, despite the memorable words of Justin Timberlake's character in The Social Network, a million dollars in pretty cool too. But a billion dollars is even cooler.

So as part of our mission to encourage female founders to aim as high as possible, here's a little inspiration in infographic form from Staff.com – a round-up of startups that made it to billion-dollar valuations, as well as details on when they did it and with how many employees. Take a look to get a bit of additional ambition, but note that the infographic may significantly undercount billion-dollar startups, according to a recent New York Times article that claims somewhere between 24 to 40 privately held companies have quietly reached ten-digit valuations, including companies like Gilt Group with female founders.

Let's add some more female-founded startups to the list (as well as celebrating the news from researchers that there are many more $10 million dollar women-owned businesses than previous data suggested.)
