Competition Judges

The finalists from PITCH NYC 2012 Startup Competition will pitch onstage live in front of the audience and live judging panel for prizes including $25,000 cash and investor meetings.

Alexis Ohanian (Ambassador, Y Combinator)
Alexis is a Brooklyn-based investor with over 50 tech startups in his portfolio. He currently sits on the board of Reddit, which he co-founded in 2005. Reddit was acquired by Condé Nast in October 2006. Alexis launched Breadpig in 2008 and then helped launch Hipmunk in 2010. Brad Svrluga (Co-Founder & General Partner, High Peaks Venture Partners)
Brad is a General Partner at High Peaks Venture Partners. Brad focuses his investing activities on web services and digital media. At High Peaks, he has led the firm’s successfully exited investments in Pump Audio, Threadsmith, Allworx and TxVia. Charlie O’Donnell (Partner, Brooklyn Bridge Ventures)
Brooklyn Bridge Ventures is a seed stage fund where Charlie is an investor in startups in Brooklyn and New York who are leveraging technology in some way – either by selling it or by leveraging it to provide a service. David Tisch (Managing Partner, BoxGroup)
David manages BoxGroup, a seed stage investment fund investing in talented entrepreneurs building disruptive technology companies. Based in New York City, BoxGroup actively invests in the New York Metro Region and opportunistically elsewhere. Previously, David worked as Managing Director of TechStars NYC. Jalak Jobanputra (Managing Partner, FuturePerfect Ventures)
Jalak is Managing Partner at FuturePerfect Ventures. Previously, she was managing partner at RTP Ventures. Prior to that, she was the Director of Mobile Investments at Omidyar Network. She has over 18 years experience in venture capital, media and technology. She was previously SVP at the New York City Investment Fund, where she spearheaded the formation NYCSeed in 2008. James Robinson (Co-Founder & Managing Partner, RRE Ventures)
James is a co-founder of expansion stage investment technology firm RRE Ventures. He has been active within the technology community for nearly 30 years as a venture capitalist, entrepreneur, banker and futurist with 40+ technology investments with a focus on consumer/enterprise applications, web services, e-commerce and financial technologies. Joy Marcus (Venture Partner, DFJ Gotham Ventures)
Joy is a Venture Partner at early stage venture capital firm DFJ Gotham. Prior to DFJ, Joy was General Manager, US for video website Dailymotion from its US launch through its acquisition by Orange (France Telecom). Laurel Touby (Founder, Mediabistro)
Laurel is a seed-stage investor active in the NYC startup community. She founded Mediabistro and as CEO, pulled the company through two recessions, pivoted, managed growth with minimal resources. Following the sale of the company for $23M to Jupitermedia (now known as WebMediaBrands), Laurel began advising select seed-stage startups and investing in others. Nikhil Kalghatgi (Venture Capitalist, SoftBank Capital)
Nikhil is an early-stage Venture Capitalist at SoftBank Capital based in NYC. He focuses on consumer internet Seed and Series A opportunities and has special interests in mobile, e-commerce and social platforms. Nikhil was Founder and Fund-Manager of Partner 6 Investment Group, a micro hedge fund in Boston and then joined the founding team of Localytics, a mobile application analytics provider. The winning startup at PITCH NYC 2012 will receive:

  • A meeting with Marc Andreessen (Co-Founder & General Partner, Andreessen Horowitz).
  • A one-year service to Rackspace (valued at $24,000).
  • An automatic finalist interview for TechStars NYC Winter 2013 class.

Additional prizes include:

  • L’Oréal Women in Digital grant of $25,000 in cash. This grant provides a year-long commitment from L’Oréal for coaching, mentorship and introductions to VC partners and L’Oréal brand leads for testing opportunities.
  • People’s Choice wins a one-on-one meeting with NYC angel investor Joanne Wilson.
