Female Founders to Watch Who Are Sitting on Boards of Big Companies

It’s no secret that company boards are dominated by men, but here are a few female founders who made the leap to the boardroom.

With recent news of Twitter appointing Marjorie Scardino to its board, there has been lots of talk about the lack of females on company boards. We’ve decided to join the chatter by doing the opposite (for now) and highlighting some female founders (within the margins of tech) who are on the boards of large-scale companies.

claraClara Shih (Founder & CEO, Hearsay Social)
Shih, a self-described pioneer in social media, is a member of the Starbucks Board of Directors. She is the author of The Facebook Era: Tapping Online Social Networks to Market, Sell and Innovate. Follow her at @clarashih.

dianeDiane Greene (Co-founder, VMWare)
Diane Greene is on the Board of Directors at Google. She previously was the president, CEO and co-founder of VMWare. She has also been reported to be working on a startup.

singhSukhinder Singh Cassidy (Founder, JOYUS)
Singh Cassidy founded JOYUS, a site that helps consumers find beauty products in Jan. 2011. She currently sits on the board of TripAdvisor, FormSpring, and Polyvore INC. Follow her at @sukhindersingh.

Kathleen_MiticKathleen Mitic (Founder & CEO, Three Koi Labs)
Mitic has served on the board of eBay since 2011 and was recently just appointed to the board of Restoration Hardware. She is the founder of a mobile startup company and additionally serves on the board of Special Olympics International. Follow her at @KatieMitic.

cher_wangCher Wang (Co-Founder, HTC Corporation & Founder, VIA Technologies)

Cher Wang, listed as one of Forbes’ World’s Most Powerful Women, serves as Chairwoman of both HTC and VIA Technologies board, both of which she founded.
